1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING

A. Delivery

1. The Integrated Fixed Film / Activated Sludge System shall be shipped and delivered to job site with a minimal amount of on-site assembly.

B. Storage

1. Equipment shall be stored in a manner that does not degrade quality or serviceability.

2. All modules to be stored in the open beyond 2 months shall use a light colored cover. Ideally these covers should be double sided, such as a white on black. The white outward facing side should reflect light. Clear or black covers are prohibited. Black will absorb heat and if the cover comes in direct contact with the Media, this heat can be quickly transferred to the Media.

3. Covers can not be wrapped tightly around the Media Support Frames. There should be at least a 6-in. (150 mm) air gap between the cover and top of modules. The ends of the cover should be securely anchored on all sides with at least a 12-in. (300 mm) air gap at the bottom. These covers must provide shade while allowing airflow to prevent build up of heat.

4. Modules should be checked at least once a week to identify minor repairs that the cover may need. Covers can become loose over time due to wind or rain and must be re-secured.

5. Modules exposed to extended non-operational periods in the aeration basin shall be adequately protected to prevent damage by temperature and weather conditions.

C. Handling

1. Abusive handling of the material shall not be permitted.

2. PRODUCTS

2.01. ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS, INTEGRATED FIXED FILM / ACTIVATED SLUDGE SYSTEM

A. Brentwood Industries, Inc. of Reading, Pennsylvania.

1. AccuWeb® Active Fabric Media System

B. Approved equal. (Pre-qualification required per Section 1.05 C).

2.02. MATERIALS

A. Active Fabric Media:

1. The Active Fabric Media shall be constructed of a knitted loop fabric fashioned into a web-like mesh. The Media shall be comprised of a combination of high tenacity 1000 denier filament polyester (>98%) and 150 denier filament polyester (<2%). The media shall have loops of approximately 0.5 in. (12 mm) or greater circumference extending from the fabric.

2. The component fibers shall have a specific gravity of 1.38, excellent chemical, acid resistance, essentially zero water absorption, and a short duration exposure melting point of not less than 240º C.

3. In no event shall rigid, structured media be allowed, as they fail to allow sufficient flow and aeration, and they fail to flex, thereby shedding excess biomass.

B. Media Support Frames:

1. The material of construction shall be 304 stainless steel. The individual members shall be either welded or bolted into a rigid frame, providing a structure for supporting the Media.

2.03 FABRICATION

A. The Media shall be installed on the Media Support Frames in a pattern such that the Media mesh sheets follows an alternating up/down pattern. The Media web shall be stretched to create the mesh openings and allow the Media to generally cover the entire width of the Frames.

B. The stretching of the webbed mesh to the sides of the Media Support Frames shall create a self-tensioning system. If individual strands are substituted for the webbed mesh system, the manufacturer shall incorporate an adjustable tensioning device to ensure that the individual strands can be maintained in tension. Additionally, manufacturer’s supplying a system utilizing individual strands shall incorporate a tension measurement device to ensure that the strands are not subsequently tensioned in excess of the strand tensile strength, leading to broken strands, loss of media surface and contamination of the aeration basin with loose strands.

3. EXECUTION

3.01 PREPARATION
