B. Related Work:
1. Sub-grade excavation and preparation (Section XXXXX - Earthwork).
2. Subsurface drainage materials (Section XXXXX - Subsurface Drainage and Structures) as needed.
|
 |
| 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE |
A. Follow Section XXXXX requirements.
B. Installation to be performed only by knowledgeable contractor with satisfactory record of performance on bulk earthworks, pipe, chamber, or pond/landfill construction projects of comparable size and quality.

A. Protect from damage and cover the Brentwood Industries StormTank modules during delivery. Store under tarp to protect from sunlight when time from delivery to installation exceeds one month. Storage should occur on smooth surfaces, free from dirt, mud, and debris.
B. Handling is to be performed with equipment appropriate to the size (height) of modules and site conditions and may include hand, handcart, forklifts, extension lifts, small cranes, etc., with care given to minimize damage to individual module components and surrounding assembled modules.
|
 |
| 1.06 PROJECT CONDITIONS |
A. Review installation procedures and coordinate Brentwood Industries StormTank work with other work affected, such as grading, excavation, utilities, construction access, erosion control to prevent all non-installation related construction traffic over the completed StormTank installation, especially with loads greater than design loads.
B. Cold weather:
1. Do not use frozen materials or materials mixed or coated with ice or frost.
2. Do not build on frozen base or wet, saturated, or muddy sub-grade.
3. Care must be taken when handling Brentwood Industries StormTank when air temperature is at or below 32 degrees F (0 degrees C).
C. Protect partially completed StormTank installation against damage from other construction traffic and/or normal traffic when work is in progress, and following completion of backfill, with highly-visible construction tape, fencing, or other means until construction is complete.
D. Protect adjacent work from damage during Brentwood Industries StormTank installation.

| 2.02 MATERIALS |
A. Base of Excavation:
Shall be smooth soil, level, and free of lumps or debris. Compact to at least 90% Proctor density or as specified by Engineer. Structural fill material may be used to amend the structural capacity of the soil and should be placed as a top fill layer, if needed. Materials that cannot be stabilized by compaction, such as sand and/or drainage rock, should be avoided.
B. Geotextile:
Shall be non-woven PP with a weight of 8 oz. per square yard (252 g per square meter), appropriate for the soil type and depth conditions, placed on the floor of the excavation, the sides of the module, and top of the module.
C. Brentwood Industries StormTank:
Injection-moulded plastic top/bottom and side platens 36” long X 18” wide (914 mm long x 457 mm wide). Extruded, rigid PVC columns sized to ASTM 2” (50.8 mm) Schedule 40 dimensions in lengths required per engineer design. Platens and columns are assembled on site to create single layer modules which can also be multiple stacked in vertical structures of variable height (custom for each project). Volume=3% solid.
D. Side Backfill:
¾” (19 mm) crushed stone, free from lumps, debris or any other sharp materials, to backfill along the sides of the modular structure. Compaction by shovel slicing or suitable compaction means in lifts that do not exceed 12” (305 mm), to provide a settlement-free surface over the sides of the structure. Side fill should be 12” (305 mm) around entire perimeter of installation to eliminate the effects of surrounding soils.
E. Top Backfill on Non-Vehicular Traffic Areas:
Use 12” (305 mm) minimum suitable compactable fill to 85% Proctor density.
F. Top Backfill on Vehicular Traffic Areas:
Use 24” (610 mm) minimum depth of cover over StormTank installation to achieve load rating. A maximum depth of 8 ft. (2.4 m) is allowed from the bottom of the installed modules to the finished surface. Suitable road base materials applicable to local codes are required for the first 12” (305 mm) of total backfill, regardless of surface fill (i.e. asphalt, concrete, etc.).
G. Utility Marker:
Use metallic tape as an outline for the entire tank to mark the area for future utility detection.
|
| 3. EXECUTION |
|
|
| 3.01 INSPECTION |
A. Examine prepared excavation and conditions for smoothness, compaction, and level. Do not start installation of Brentwood Industries StormTank until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
B. Installation constitutes acceptance of existing conditions and responsibility for satisfactory performance. If existing conditions are found unsatisfactory, contact the Project Manager or contractor responsible for correcting an unsatisfactory condition.
|
|
| 3.02 PREPARATION |
A. Place geotextile fabric for sides a minimum of 20" (508 mm) inside the outer perimeter of the modules prior to placement of the modules. It is helpful to identify the outline of the structure on the floor of the excavation, using spray paint or chalk line, to ensure squareness during module placement.
|
|
| 3.03 INSTALLATION OF BRENTWWOD INDUSTRIES STORMTANK |
A. Level the base of the excavated area as per engineering detail.
B. Lay geotextile on the base and sidewalls of the excavation, with extra geotextile on the sides to wrap the tank modules from the top.
C. Install StormTank modules by placing them side-by-side. Try to place sides of modules against one another without allowing one top panel to overlap another.
Wrap the StormTank modules in geotextile fabric layer from the sides and the top to prevent soil entry into the StormTank modules. Take great care to avoid damage to the fabric liner material during placement. If damage occurs, replace that portion of geotextile with an undamaged piece.
Start backfilling with recommended backfill.
As an added option, place a layer of geogrid directly over the top of the backfill 12” (305 mm) from the top of the tank surface, to provide a more secure walking surface.
D. Identify locations of inlet, outlet, inspection ports, and any other penetrations of the liner, then secure the pipe into the side panels and seal the geotextile fabric. Support pipe in trenches and during backfill operations to prevent damage to liner or pipe.
E. Use suitable mechanical compactor to conduct backfill operations on structure sides, taking care to avoid damage to the liner while providing required compaction forces to the top level of the structure.
F. Place cover backfill in 12” (305 mm) lifts and compact to a minimum of 95% with vibrating plates or walk-behind rollers (do not use drivable rolling compactors) to a minimum depth of 24” (610 mm) and a maximum depth of 8 ft. (2.4 m), or as specified on engineering drawings. Take care when placing backfill on top of structure to avoid damage to structure or liner, using low-pressure tire or track vehicles. Driving on modules should be avoided until a full 24” (610 mm) base has been placed as cover.
G. Ensure that all non-chamber construction traffic be kept away from the limits of excavation until the project is complete and final surface materials are in place.
H. Place surfacing materials, such as groundcovers (no shrubs or trees), or paving materials over the structure with care to avoid displacement of cover fill and damage to surrounding areas.
|
|
| 3.04 CLEANING |
A. Perform cleaning during the installation of work and upon completion of the work. Remove from site all excess materials, debris, and equipment. Repair any damage to adjacent materials and surfaces resulting from installation of this work.
